The subclass 500 Student Visa allows international students to study full-time at an educational institution in Australia for the duration of their course, which can be up to 5 years. This visa also grants work rights for up to 48 hours per fortnight during the semester. To be eligible, students must be enrolled in a full-time course at a CRICOS-registered institution, meet English language proficiency requirements, and provide proof of sufficient funds to cover tuition, living expenses, and insurance. Health insurance through Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) is required.

The visa duration is linked to the course length, with a few additional months for travel. Conditions include full-time study, maintaining satisfactory progress, and adhering to work-hour limits. After completing their studies, students can apply for a post-study work visa or explore permanent residency options. The application process involves receiving a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE), submitting an online application with supporting documents, undergoing health and character checks, and complying with visa conditions. It’s important to apply early to allow enough time for processing.

The visa costs from AUD 1,600, unless exempt.
