The Subclass 101 Child Visa allows children of Australian citizens, permanent residents, or eligible New Zealand citizens to live with their parents in Australia as permanent residents. This visa is designed for children under 18 years of age who are dependent on their parent(s) and wish to join them in Australia. The visa grants the child the ability to live, study, and work in Australia and provides access to healthcare through Medicare, along with other benefits typically available to permanent residents. It is available to children both inside and outside Australia, although if applying from overseas, the applicant must be outside Australia when the visa is granted.

The Subclass 101 visa is a permanent residency visa, meaning once granted, the child will be able to live, study, and work in Australia indefinitely. The child can also travel in and out of Australia freely. However, the visa is subject to general conditions applied to all permanent residency holders, such as complying with Australian law. In some cases, additional conditions may be applied based on the child’s specific circumstances, such as conditions related to health or character.

The application process for the Subclass 101 Child Visa involves preparing necessary documents such as proof of relationship with the parent(s), the child’s birth certificate or adoption papers, and other identification documents. Applicants can submit the application online or in paper form through the Department of Home Affairs. Once the application is submitted, the Department will process it, and applicants may be asked to provide additional information or attend an interview. If the application is successful, the child will be granted the visa and can travel to Australia as a permanent resident.

In certain cases, adopted children can apply for the Subclass 101 visa if the adoption is legally recognized and the child is still dependent on the adoptive parent(s). Stepchildren are also eligible, provided the biological parent is an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen, and the stepchild is dependent on the parent at the time of the application.
